Here you will find details of schemes we are working on, our working groups and parish vacancies and Active South Derbyshire Children's Summer Play Scheme
We have recently applied to Derbyshire County Council for a wildflower cultivation licence to enable us to plant wildflower verges in and around the village. We have started preparation on a small area opposite Drift Road (Manorfields Estate) and will be sowing native wildflowers in the upcoming months. Should this be successful, we will be rolling out the scheme to other areas.
Why are we doing this?
Wildflowers, believe it or not, are essential to a healthy ecosystem. Unfortunately, due to development, intensive farming and cultivation of green spaces, we have lost over 97% of wildflower meadows since the 1930's.
Wildflowers provide bee's, butterflies and other pollinators with food sources throughout the seasons and that is why we need more areas of wildflower planting. Our favourite fruits and vegetables rely on pollinators to produce a crop. Without them, there would be no us! Their seeds also provide an important source of food during the winter months for birds and small mammals.
If you would like to propose an area for future planting, please let us know.
We are currently in the process of obtaining Tender Documents for a public consultation on an access route to the recreation ground on Mount Pleasant Road.
As you will most probably know, access at the minute is via a very steep hill and isn't really pushchair or disability friendly and we want to make this area as inclusive as possible for the whole village.
We aim to construct an access road down to the play equipment and sports field to enable everyone to be able to use the area at all times of the year and also allow for minor vehicular access, emergency vehicles and provision of onsite parking for events to alleviate the issue with parking on Mount Pleasant Road.
Once the design and costs associated have been put together, we will be notifying the Parish for their thoughts or concerns.
If you would like to join the working party for this, please contact the Clerk
